Sylvia Vollenhoven's critically acclaimed play, Krotoa Eva van de Kaap, is back at the Artscape Arena in the Mother City from this week.
The play, in collaboration with Het Volksoperahuis in the Netherlands, has been described as a moving music theatre production.
It's directed by Basil Appollis, and features Bianca Flanders and
Kees Scholten.
Set in the present day South Africa, it follows the story of a Dutch actor and a South African actress who meet on the film set of Krotoa Eva van de Kaap.
It shows how the two stars are emotionally affected by the story of Jan van Riebeeck, a VOC merchant commander, and the Khoe girl Krotoa in the Cape.
History has it that Krotoa was physically and sexually abused and emotionally battered by a clash of cultures.
The production unfolds in Afrikaans, Dutch, English and Khoekhoe with English surtitles.
