Initial information received was the deceased was a pedestrian who was the victim of a hit and run however after further investigation it was establised that he had jumped out a moving bakkie. A resident in the area arrived at the scene and informed Reaction Officers that he and the deceased were friends.
He went on to explain that they were consuming alcohol at a local tavern when the asked the driver of a bakkie for a lift back to their home. He agreed and asked them to jump into the back of the opened bakkie. As the bakkie travelled along the R614 the driver drove in an erratic and negligent manner. He failed to stop at the agreed drop off point and continued speeding when the two men decided to jump off the moving vehicle. He managed to jump off at one point when the bakkie slowed down however could not confirm at which point the deceased decided to jump off.
The driver of the bakkie has been identified and Police are investigating further.
