The Western Cape Government says authorities are responding to a suspected outbreak of Avian Influenza amongst wild seabirds in the Bergrivier Municipality on the West Coast.
Provincial Local Government Minister, Anton Bredell, they're also concerned about the Walker Bay area in the Overberg.
He says disaster nodes have been alerted and CapeNature
has already deployed teams to collect dead and sick birds.
Bredell says veterinarians are currently at the sites and giving advice to authorities on how to manage the sick birds.
Bredell has urged the public to avoid the area and in particular not to collect or touch sick or dead birds.
