The organization's Mike Miles: "They cannot sting through feathers, also I would imagine that the penguins themselves are smelly creatures.
I'm not an expert on penguins, but those odours from the penguins would have also aggravated them and once the bees start attacking, they don't stop and they do go for the eyes, that would have disoriented the penguins.
