The Western Cape is now entering a third wave of Covid 19 with sustained increases in infections over the past few weeks.
The province currently has more than 6100 active cases, with over a thousand Covid19 hospitalisations.
The province says it is on track with opening vaccination sites across the province.
Town International Convention Centre set to open up in the next few weeks as one of three mass vaccination sites.
Its envisaged that this site would be able to vaccinate over 4000 people daily.
Authorities however says the rollout of vaccinations is dependant on doses allocated.
Speaking during a weekly digicon on covid treatment and the vaccination drive, Premier Alan Winde, urged the public to avoid large gatherings and to adhere to protocols: "We have built the vaccine sites and the model of getting vaccines into arms efficiently and effectively in this province we have built it on this predictive supply line but of course the Johnson & Johnson vaccines that are now piling up because those vaccine delivery dates are now
piling up one on top of each other is really starting to put pressure on the system and we really do need to see an urgent outcome of the FDA in the USA on whether we can actually go ahead with the roll-out of Johnson & Johnson."
