A memorial service is expected to be held on Thursday for the late Khoisan leader, Chief Ockert Lewis, at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town.
Chief Ockie passed away at the age of 66 on Wednesday at the Ladismith Hospital in the Little Karoo due to cancer.
He will be
buried next Saturday in Zoar.
In his tribute the CEO of the Castle Control Board, Calvyn Gilfellan, says no event at the Castle was complete without the prayer by Chief Ockie in the traditional Khoi language: "Oom Ockie could take you on a spiritual and emotional ride that takes you back hundreds and hundreds of years ago.
That's the Oom Ockie I want to remember, somebody who was very humble, somebody who was not looking for material or any other recognition or rewards, somebody who cared from the bottom of his heart and somebody who made the link between the past, the present and the future."
