The Western Cape Health Department has launched a multi-sectoral emergency response plan to tackle tuberculosis in the province.
Director Keith Cloete, says the plan includes the prevention of new infections, early detection and support.
He was speaking at the Karl Bremmer Hospital in Cape Town.
Cloete says the fight against Covid-19 has globally
pushed back the efforts of eradicating TB, by six to eight years.
He says part of the plan entails early detection with widespread screening and testing.
Cloete says an sms results system to inform patients of their test results has also been launched.
The province says an online dashboard, similar to the one used to communicate statistics around Covid 19 will be unveiled by the end of June.
