Operational successes achieved by POP Unit members On Tuesday, 27 April 2021, at about 11:00, members attached to Western Cape Public Order Police (POP) were deployed in the Delft area assisting in stabilising the area in relation to violence linked to gangs.
Members received information from the community that gang members
were selling drugs at three addresses in Elsinburg Street, Junker Street and Bergbessie Street, Delft area.
The members then operationalised the information and proceeded to the address in Elsinburg Street.
Upon searching the premises, members found two suspects in possession of drugs.
Upon searching the one suspect members found six packets (units) containing crystal meth.
Upon searching the other suspect who tried to evade police, members found eight packets (units) of crystal meth, and several mandrax tablets in his possession.
Two suspects aged 27 and 36 were arrested for possession of drugs and detained at Delft SAPS.
Thereafter, members proceeded to the second address in Junker Street.
After executing a search of the premises members found two suspects in possession of drugs.
Upon noticing uniformed members,
the one suspect attempted to flee, but was swiftly apprehended by members.
In the process of searching the suspect, members found 10 mandrax tablets and 28 half mandrax tablets in his pocket.
The members continued searching a second suspect in the residence, members found 16 packets of crystal meth in his possession.
Both suspects aged 41 and 44 were arrested for possession of drugs.
The police officials then proceeded to the third address, a well-known gang den in Bergbessie Street.
After searching the premises, members found one suspect, searched him and found a large amount of drugs in his pocket being: 25 x packets (units) containing crystal meth and 25 mandrax tablets.
A 20-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
While on their way to Delft SAPS to process the arrests, members patrolled a known hotspot and noticed a suspicious looking male in Hawker Street, Delft.
As soon as he noticed the marked police vehicle the suspect attempted to evade the members, but quick action led to the apprehension of the suspect.
They discovered in the pocket of his jacket eight packets (units) containing crystal meth.
The 19-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and will appear in court once charged.
All these suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court once charged.
