Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu, is launching an online booking system which will allow disability grant applicants to book their medical assessments without having to physically go to a Sassa office.
On average applicants have to visit a SASSA office three times as part of the application process.
According to the agency
the introduction of the new online booking process will decrease costs for SASSA and the applicants and decrease long queues at the SASSA offices.
At the end of last year more than two hundred thousand beneficiaries were left hanging after the grants payments lapsed.
SASSA cited a lack of funding as one of the issues and also the hard lockdown due to Covid 19 which allowed a ten month extension before medical assessments were required for applicants.
SASSA also came under harsh criticism after chaos broke out at a Cape Town office earlier this year when police used water canons to ensure social distancing.
