Western Cape traffic officials are out in full force on the N1 to ensure motorists obey the rules of the road.
A Fatigue Management Operation Stop has been set up at Rietfontein between Beaufort West and Laingsburg in the Karoo.
Their focus is on public transport, but other motorists are also being
flagged down to ensure they are well-rested to continue on their journey.
Beaufort West Provincial Traffic Chief, Petro Swanepoel, says they have also caught motorists speeding, wi th the help of Speed Over Distance:
"I want to urge the motorists that they need to stop and rest.
They must stretch their legs, drink some water.
And don't take this N1 from Cape Town to wherever you need to be lightly.
You must plan your journey and stop and rest please.
And further keep to the rules of the road, obey the barrier lines and stick to the speed limits."
Meanwhile, motorcyclist has died following a crash with a car on the N7 before the N1 near Milnerton.
City traffic spokesperson, Richard Coleman, says the motorcyclist was
found dead at the scene.
Coleman says the N7 southbound is closed at Bosmansdam and traffic is being diverted towards Edgmead.
