The Western Cape government says there's been an increase of over 120 000 jobs in the province in the last quarter.
Provincial Finance Minister, David Maynier, says the Stats SA Quarterly Labour Force Survey shows early signs of economic recovery.
Stats SA says the overall unemployment rate increased by 1.7 percentage points
to 32.5%.
Maynier says the province continues to have the lowest expanded unemployment rate in South Africa: "The jobs numbers released today reveal enc ouraging signs of economic recovery with an increase in employment of 121 000 jobs in the last quarter.
The highest increase of all the provinces in South Africa which is credit to the private sectors resilience during the Covid 19 pandemic in the Western Cape.
However in the end we know that too many people especially young people have lost their jobs and so we will continue to work hard to support businesses and save jobs in the Western Cape."
