A number of schools in the Western Cape have managed to produce improved matric results despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus.
Elswood Secondary School at Elsies River improved its pass rate from 55 to 84% with a spike in university passes from nine in 2019 to 28.
Education Ministry officials in
the province visited the school today.
Principal, Marlon Kiewiet, attributed the achievement to hard working and dedicated staff: "The extra classes at school, profiled our learners especially those who repeated a particular grade.
We had weekend classes for our learners, we had to provide study opportunities for them at the school during the week, Saturdays or Sundays.""https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p526x296/154094257_3987174598001561_1054402902211307935_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=3&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=sNDBRhDSqOMAX_1GqWU&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=6&oh=ee010e7bcfe179cd42a9247abff9cfdf&oe=605CC743","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/153695705_3987174674668220_4051556038385115962_n.jpg?_nc_cat=109&ccb=3&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=EXDLjZMTe00AX_Hhql2&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=6e7f654cedac2e0e68539eaebd402868&oe=6058F533","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/153695704_3987174761334878_2364037722133869157_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=3&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=KYrapSwmwy0AX_20zGf&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=8364c8b620dccd4797769a814da83197&oe=605A471E","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/153205448_3987174818001539_4851124336516384282_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&ccb=3&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=KbHy5FdMt4wAX-ugMzD&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=fe7812591bc9bc83a479c02967fadcc4&oe=605A0DC9"
