Minister of Higher Education Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Ndzimande, says a total of 58 staff members and students at universities have succumed to Covid-19 since November last year.
He was briefing the media on his department's plans for the reopening of tertiary institutions and the contribution of science in
the fight against the virus.
Nzimande says 3088 staff and students have tested positive for COVID19 since the end of last year but that the figures could be much higher as data collection hasn't been easy during the festive season.
He says the department has invested about R68 million rand in research aimed at combatting the virus and that it is working with global science experts in finding solutions to minimise infections."https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p526x296/140183083_3892050474180641_5903809114822474488_o.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=2&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=9viQT75H_y0AX8ps68C&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=6&oh=40828ae9a5e12d95c332f01e7b6cf381&oe=602BFEC4"
