South Africa has recorded 254 new COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24-hours bringing the death toll to 37 105.
According to the Health Department, the Western Cape recorded the highest number of fatalities at 72 followed by Gauteng with 59 deaths, Kwa-Zulu Natal with 40 deaths, the North West with
26 deaths, the Eastern Cape with 22 deaths, Mpumalanga with 16 deaths, the Free State with 13 deaths and the Northern Cape with 6 deaths.
Meanwhile, a further 12 267 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the same period bringing the cumulative number of infections to 1 337 926.
Meanwhile, senior researcher at the CSIR Dr Ridhwaan Suliman has stressed the importance of improved testing for coronavirus in South Africa.
