Police in Mpumalanga urge community to adhere to lockdown regulations Police in Mpumalanga are urging the community to strictly adhere to the Lockdown Regulations specifically during funerals.
This warning comes after mourners at the funeral of the late Prince Andries Mbangelwa Mahlangu 67-year-old, which took place in Siyabuswa, yesterday, broke the
Lockdown rules.
It appears that the number of mourners who attended the funeral, exceeded the number permitted, as per the cur rent Lockdown Regulations under Alert Level three as proclaimed by the President of the Republic of South Africa.
Under the current level, only 50 mourners including members of the family can attend a funeral and failure to do so can result in the bereaved families facing the authorities.
Funerals have been regarded as super spreaders of the Corona Virus (COVID-19).
The Station Commander of Siyabuswa Police Station Brigadier Sipho Mokwatlo, has since directed that the senior member who was tasked with the responsibility of monitoring the funeral be made to account and a case docket has been opened against the family for
breaking the Lockdown Regulations.
The police call on the community, more especially bereaved families to make sure that mourners attending funerals, do not exceed the stipulated number for attendees.
