Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez, has met with the CEO of SASSA, Totsie Memela Khambula to discuss ways to improve the distribution of temporary disability and care dependency grants in the province.
Long queues have formed in areas such as Gugulethu on the Cape Flats amid a backlog
in issuing grants.
Fernandez says she's concerned about the welfare of the more than 51 000 grant recipients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She says, "During our meeting today, I appealed to SASSA to develop a priority plan to deal with the fact that the Western Cape has a highest number of affected beneficiaries.
I proposed that the plan must be smart and realistic and that it speaks directly to the fact that temporary grants lapsed at the end of December already.""https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/139044425_3878175908901431_3248089980229463201_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=2&_nc_sid=8024bb&_nc_ohc=-bYfXlFg31kAX_OSLYb&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&oh=90375002ad9b0775429aaacdf4600170&oe=60267752"
