The first drone pilots of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture have received their licences.
The group, consisting of agriculture students, interns and officials have received their licences during a wings ceremony in the Mother City.
They recently completed an examination of the Civil Aviation Authority after receiving training from an approved
drone school, Drone-X.
The provincial Agriculture Minister, Ivan Meyer, congratulated the new pilots and said drone technology
will contribute to economic growth and food security: "The Western Cape Department of Agriculture has now successfully trained staff and students in agriculture in receiving their remote pilot licence, the licence is accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority to fly drones, drone technology and innovation will increase farm efficiency and lead to an increase in agriculture production in the Western Cape, innovation and technology is the future of agriculture here in the province."
