A SANDF Oryx helicopter has airlifted an ill fisherman off a deepsea fishing trawler off-shore of Cape Columbine lighthouse, on the West Coast.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says rescue crews were activated following the request for assistance from the local fishing trawler.

"On arrival on the scene the NSRI rescue swimmer and EMS paramedic were hoisted from the helicopter onto the fishing trawler and the patient in a stable condition was hoisted into the helicopter using a basket hoist procedure.
The helicopter landed at Groote Schuur hospital landing zone and the patient was taken into the care of EMS paramedics.
He has been transported to a local private hospital for further medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.
